The Royal Flush! Decked out in rolls of toilet paper and sporting signs proclaiming “Fruita Roll-atarians Make Good Things Roll All Year Long” and “Let's Roll,” this wheeled wonder was ready for action! The Rotary Club of Fruita's last-minute entry turned into a first-place flush, proving that teamwork, creativity and a little bathroom humor can go a long way!
Two days, four laps and one first-place finish!
Fruita, Colorado, knows how to have fun. After all, this is the town that celebrates Mike the Headless Chicken every May, honoring the legendary rooster who lived for 18 months without his head. So perhaps it shouldn't surprise anyone that another of Fruita's beloved traditions involves racing outhouses!
The Fruita Fall Festival has celebrated the community's history and spirit for 111 years, and this year, the Rotary Club of Fruita decided to get in on the action.
There was just one little detail. They decided to enter the Outhouse Race only TWO DAYS before the event!
But Rotarians know how to get things done, especially when there's a deadline, a little friendly competition and an outhouse involved.
Members sprang into action. One crew tackled the important business of decorating their wheeled contraption, which resembled a pedal-powered pedicab, with rolls of toilet paper and signs proclaiming, “Fruita Roll-atarians Make Good Things Roll All Year Long” and “Let's Roll!”
Another group warmed up and practiced for the big race, while still more members prepared to cheer their teammates on from the sidelines.
Ready, Set, GO!
With their royal throne ready to roll, their running shoes laced and their Rotary spirit on full display, the team was off!
And there was certainly no time for a potty break!
Four laps later, the runners were breathless, the cheering section was ecstatic, and the results were in.
FIRST PLACE!
That's right! With just 48 hours to prepare, the Rotary Club of Fruita pulled off the ultimate first-place flush!
Who says Service Above Self can't include a little silliness, a lot of teamwork and plenty of laughter?
Congratulations to the Fruita Rotarians for proving that when Rotary members get rolling, great things happen all year long!

Ready, Set, GO! No Time for a Potty Break! With just 48 hours to prepare, Fruita Rotarians pulled together a team, warmed up their running legs and got ready to roll. Four breathless laps later, they were celebrating a first-place finish in the Fruita Fall Festival Outhouse Race!
