Zone Institute isn’t just for governors. It’s an opportunity for any Rotarian who wants to learn more, meet people from across the West and discover what Rotary looks like beyond the club level.
Rotarians from across Zones 26 and 27 will gather Nov. 11-13, 2027, at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, for the Big West Institute 2027, built around the theme “Gratitude in Action.”
While Rotary Institutes are often associated with district governors and other district leaders, the experience is much broader than that.
“Zone Institute is for any Rotarian that is interested in learning different aspects of Rotary and making connections beyond the club,” said Past District Governor Teresa Anson. “It is not just for the Governor Line.”
For club members who have wondered what Rotary looks like outside their own community, Institute provides a chance to pull back the curtain and explore the larger Rotary world.
The gathering brings together Rotarians from throughout the western United States for workshops, speakers, program displays, community activities and tours, along with plenty of opportunities to exchange ideas and build relationships.
For Rotarians already serving at the district level, it can provide new ideas, resources and connections with others doing similar work. But it can be equally valuable for club-level Rotarians who want to learn more about Rotary programs, service opportunities and leadership beyond their own club.
“It makes an enlightening intro for potential future leaders at any level,” Teresa said.
And that may be one of the greatest benefits of Institute.
Rotary leadership often begins simply with curiosity: What are other clubs doing? How does the district work? What opportunities are available beyond my club? Where might my skills or interests fit?
At Institute, a Rotarian can meet people serving in membership, public image, The Rotary Foundation, youth programs, international service and countless other areas. Conversations over a workshop, program display or cup of coffee can lead to new ideas for a club, a partnership on a service project or a connection that lasts for years.
It is also an opportunity to see just how large the Rotary family really is.
For someone accustomed to attending a weekly club meeting, gathering with Rotarians from across multiple states can offer an entirely different perspective on the organization and the many ways members put Service Above Self into action.
Whether you are a longtime district leader, a club officer, a committee chair, a newer Rotarian wondering what else Rotary has to offer or someone who may someday consider stepping into a leadership role, Big West Institute offers an opportunity to learn, connect and have some fun along the way.
Planning for the 2027 Institute is already underway, with registration information to come.
