District 5470 Leadership: What and Who is a G-Line? 

Greetings!

I am Barb Bowman, your District Governor Elect. I will be your District Governor in 2027-28, as Donna Hood is now. You are probably wondering, as I did, how does this all work?

First and foremost, serving as Governor for an entire Rotary district is an incredible honor. Individuals that serve in this capacity are recognized leaders, nominated by their clubs to fill this important role. As Governor, you are the official representative of Rotary International in your region and your mission is to lead clubs, inspire Rotary members, and engage the general public in the important role fulfilled by Rotary.  District Governors serve for one full Rotary year, from July 1 to June 30, and are very actively engaged in District leadership up to their year as Governor. 

In Rotary International, the G-Line (or Governor-Line) refers to the multi-year leadership and training track for incoming District Governors. The G-Line structure typically spans a four-year commitment: 

  • District Governor Nominee-Designate (DGND): Selected about three years prior to taking office. (Not yet chosen)

  • District Governor Nominee (DGN): Two years prior to service. (Dave Frank)

  • District Governor-Elect (DGE): One year prior, involving extensive international training assemblies. (Barb Bowman)

  • District Governor (DG): The active leadership year overseeing local Rotary International clubs.  (Donna Hood)

How does one become Governor? A Rotary District Governor is elected through a localized district nomination process 24 to 36 months before taking office, followed by formal election at the annual Rotary International Convention. This person must have been a club president, must be a member in good standing for seven years, and complete a multi-year training.
