This fall, Rotary District 5470 will be doing the same.
On Sunday, October 18, District 5470 leaders will gather at the DoubleTree in Colorado Springs for a districtwide strategic planning retreat. Members of the G-Line, Assistant Governors and District Committee Chairs will come together to look ahead, share perspectives from across our geographically diverse district and help shape priorities for the future.
The retreat is designed to take a broader look at District 5470: where we are today, where we want to go and how district leadership can best support our clubs and Rotarians along the way.
Just as a club strategic plan should extend beyond the priorities of one club president or board, district planning provides an opportunity to think beyond a single Rotary year. With leadership changing annually, having shared priorities and a clear direction can help maintain momentum, strengthen continuity and ensure that our resources and efforts remain focused on what matters most.
The process also gives leaders working in different areas of Rotary an opportunity to hear from one another. Assistant Governors bring perspectives from the clubs they serve. Committee Chairs see opportunities and challenges within membership, The Rotary Foundation, youth programs, public image, learning, international service and other areas. Members of the G-Line bring both current leadership experience and a view toward the district’s future.
Bringing those perspectives together can help District 5470 better understand what our clubs need, identify opportunities for collaboration and determine how district leadership can provide meaningful support.
The timing is especially fitting as Rotary continues to emphasize its Action Plan priorities: increasing our impact, expanding our reach, enhancing participant engagement and increasing our ability to adapt. Strategic planning gives District 5470 an opportunity to consider how those priorities translate across our own communities and clubs.
The October retreat will take place during the same weekend as the District Foundation Reception at The Broadmoor, creating an opportunity for district leaders to celebrate the impact of The Rotary Foundation and then turn their attention toward planning for what comes next.
Strategic planning is ultimately about being intentional. It means taking time away from the urgency of today’s to-do list to ask bigger questions about tomorrow.
On October 18, District 5470 leaders will be doing exactly that: listening, evaluating, looking ahead and working together to help create a strong and sustainable future for Rotary throughout our district.
