Aimee has been a Rotarian for eight years in the La Junta Rotary Club and currently serves as club president, an Assistant Governor and an RLI Facilitator. Her Rotary journey is a great reminder that sometimes getting involved in service starts with something as simple as asking a question.

Unlike many people who are personally invited to join Rotary, Aimee took the initiative herself. She overheard Rotary members talking about a social gathering where they would get together and enjoy drinks. Curious about how she could be part of the group, she simply asked, “How do I get involved?” That question opened the door to eight years of fellowship, service, and meaningful connections through Rotary.

When asked about the most rewarding part of serving as an Assistant Governor, Aimee shared that it is meeting all the wonderful Rotarians. Building relationships with fellow members and connecting with people who share a commitment to service has been one of the most meaningful aspects of her role. These connections are an important part of what makes Rotary special, bringing together people from different backgrounds who want to make a positive difference in their communities.

Aimee also has an important message for anyone considering taking on a district leadership role. Her advice is to make sure you have the time and patience needed to fulfill the responsibilities. Serving at the district level can be a rewarding experience, but it also requires commitment, understanding, and a willingness to work with others. Taking the time to consider these responsibilities before accepting a role can help ensure a positive experience for both the volunteer and the people they serve.

Outside of Rotary, Aimee works for Otero County as the Land Use code enforcement officer and building and septic inspector. She is also involved on local boards. Her work involves responsibilities that are important to the community, and she balances her professional life with her commitment to Rotary and her family.

Aimee has been married for 18 years and is the proud mother of two children, a 16-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son. Between work, family, and Rotary, she has plenty to keep her busy!

Aimee's story highlights an important lesson about service: you don't always have to wait for someone to invite you to get involved. Sometimes, all it takes is a little curiosity and the willingness to ask how you can help. Her experience also reminds us that Rotary is about more than service projects and meetings. It is about the friendships we build, the people we meet, and the shared desire to make a difference.
